there is a problem with hets albino

bigdee May 20, 2004 11:54 AM

Well i was thinking of putting deposit on 1.1 100 het albinos ($1000)which is alot of money for me making $280 a week p/t. I seen a post about poss hets and got to thinking would it be a good idea to get a 100 het male and some 66het females? Also the problem is that i searched the classifieds and some breeders sites and I cant find any 66hets anywhere. Anyone know where I can find any 66 hets and why are they hard to find?

A LOT of eggs haven't even been laid yet for the 2004 season, let alone HATCHED and ready for sale. You may have to wait until that happens. 2003's aren't likely for sale anymore as they've been sold to people who wanted them last year.

Man this is messed up if i get babies then I will have to wait atleat 3yrs to breed and I guess damn near 4 yrs to get babies. Someone said they would give ma a 500g female and 280g male 100 het pair for $1000 but man thats steep for my pockets though he would put a pay plan for me. I really dont want to wait 3-4 yrs bad enough im still waiting for my het boas to breed. Hmmmm dont know what to do I wonder if i can find something at the whiteplains show july 18th

I can understand $1000 being steep for your pockets but thats not a bad price for pair of 100% hets with the female weighing 500 grams. I bought a pair of 100 % het females that were babies (100 gr.) back in Feb.'03 for $1700. I had already bought a 100% het male (600 gr.) a few months before for $350. My females weigh in at 1100 grams each so hopefully they will both be ready this Nov. This year I bred the male to 3 normals and plan on keeping all the 50% females and selling the males. Guess what I'm saying is for a pair of 100% hets with the female already 500 grams - sounds like a pretty good deal IMO. Good luck to you-

Bigdee,

I have followed your posts and feel you have to ask yourself a few questions. When? How long?

When do you want to see a return on your investment?

If this is not about making a few bucks then take your time with the project and go the cheaper route.

How long are you willing to wait?

Think of it this way - You may pay $1,000 for a pair, BUT how long must you wait for them to produce offspring? Are they able to breed NOW? If so, you can breed next season and have snakes for sale in roughly one year. Granted, it will cost $1,000 if you purchase this pair and I can assure you a profit next year is unlikley with one female. Think of your start up costs, the cost of the snakes, and the price to feed them. You can always look for other pairs of het/albino. I think that sounds a little high personally, but reasonable if they are large enough to mate NOW. I have seen hets as cheap as $650.00 in classifieds, but they are probably babies ( not sure ). I would go through as many of the better known breeders and hunt for the best prices. I am not saying you should only deal with the top breeders, but someone reliable. Do this by asking for references and following up on them.

I got my het and 66% het for about $450.00 so I would think a pair of hets between $800 - $900 is a good price. Maybe others who actually have done this a few times can shed some light. I run a small business on Ebay and know often the numbers are not as good as it seems.

Godd Luck,
ToddG

well similar to toddg, i have my het male. i am waiting to the new babies to hatch out so that i can buy some poss het females. i myself can't put out the money for a het female either. but i mainly just want to hatch out albinos no matter how long it takes. but i know that once i do i'll more than make my money back if i sell some babies in the future. but if you're looking for a het female as soon as possible i say breed your het to several females and then sell your own poss hets to pay for your het. that's one way of going about.

Please consider that is much more difficult for you, as an unknown in this industry, to sell animals as het or possible het... everyone's worried about getting scammed. At the very least I recommend that you get 100% hets so that you may produce albinos as soon as possible....

...an albino male would be an even better idea.... if it's possible, try and get a het female now and start growing her, then save your money like mad and get a killer albino male next year.... this would be the best choice as far as the investment side of it goes. The female needs more time to grow anyway.
