Ants and my WTF ??? any need to worry?

frog429 May 20, 2004 12:30 PM

I've got a problem, apparently, little tiny ants have gotten to ove the taste of my feeder crickets. I have a few in my frogs tank, I can't spray because I don't want to kill my frog. They don't appear to be munching on him, but he doesnt' eat the ants, should I be worried???? The ants eat my crickets! Its crazy? they are little itty bitty ants and the crickets are large crickets! I've gotten the cricket issue fixed I think, but I want to make sure that my beloved Cartman will be okay.

thanks,

jess

If they ants have pinchers, or seam to be crowding around your frog, yes, you have a problem, but dont worry about the odd ant running around the enclosure :D

From my experience, kill every ant that comes near your animals. If there is one, there will be more coming. If you can, find some ant chalk and outline your animals enclosure with it. The chalk will repel the ants away.

You HAVE to change the tank. I had a baby white's tree frog and an ant problem (the little bitty black ones like you said you have). I went away for the weekend, my roommate checked on the frog in the morning, no ants, no problems, and when he came home from work that night ants had taken over the ENTIRE tank and the only thing that was left of my frog was the skeleton. It had been only 18 hours, tops. You HAVE to change everything and get rid of them, and get some ant traps to keep around the tank to kill them in the future. Don't let the same happen to your frog...

Good luck.
