Housing snakes together

brad_j May 20, 2004 01:13 PM

I have a 4 foot ball python and a 3 foot boa, I want to build a new enclosure for the boa, but I'm keeping the two snakes in the same enclosure at the time. I was told as long as they are around the same size, they are cool, but when is the size difference going to matter?

Just a quick answer since I am at work.

Actually they should not be housed together no matter what size enclosure you have or what size the snakes are. Balls and Boas come from two different parts of the world and could be carrying something disease like that one is immune too but deadly for the other. Plus these guys are not dumb and know that they are in the cage with some other strange alien looking snake and it may stress them out.

As a matter of fact while I am thinking of it, I would not even house two snakes of the same species together period. No matter what king they are. (Unless trying to get two snakes to mate then they would be separated again)

Thanks for the reply,

I'll keep them in different enclosures. You brought up a good point. Now that I think about it, I have a few friends that have boas and pythons in the same tank, and their pets have a high mortality rate. I'll tell them right away.
