Dicamptodon salamanders

Carlton May 20, 2004 01:47 PM

Hi,

I'm curious whether anyone has established captive Pacific Giant salamanders (either tenebrosus or copeii). I see them in the wild occasionally, but would never collect them. There is some debate about how far north into British Columbia they occur these days. Neat animals!

If you've even seen one I would say you are lucky. I can only speak for myself, but I grew up on the Washington State peninsula which is one of this critter's main stomping grounds and I never even glimpsed one. Always found plenty of rough-skinned newts though.

Good luck!
