Incubation issues

drdoolittle1 May 20, 2004 01:48 PM

Just became a gecko owner 5 days ago. Female laid eggs 2 nights ago. Got a hovabator, but it was 12 hours before I was able to put them in incubator. They were in moist laying box, and not bothered by leos, but was that too long? Eggs are in moist vermiculite at 80 degrees. Have a water bowl in there too. How do I judge humidity, other than buying a gauge. Also- I put eggs in carefully, the way they were laid, which was side by side, making contact. Is this OK? How will I know if eggs are no longer viable? Anything else I need to do for them? Also, how much handling can the eggs take? Am afraid to even inspect them.

They should be ok. If you house wasn't to cold I don't think you will have a problem. As for judging the humidity I really don't worry much about the humidity inside the incubators although I do add water to the inside in the small channel thats provided for it. As for the handling of the eggs I wouldn't recommend doing that too much. Since these are your first eggs you could have a mishap. I mark all my eggs top dead center with a sharpie marker before removing them from the lay box to the incubator. I am pretty sure your eggs will be ok. Just incubate them until they either hatch or turn brown, deflate, mold or swell and burst! Hopefully you'll have some little leos running around in a couple months. Hope this helps you out. If not email me and I can into depth with you.
