My first ball pythons

TomChambers May 20, 2004 02:14 PM

This is my first year breeding balls.
The female was a 2500 gram normal, the male was a 900 gram het T-pos abino(caramel). First breeding for both.
She laid 5 eggs 2 slug 2 perfect and 1 with a nippled end that started to mold slightly. All thee piped last night.

Thanks for looking,

TomChambers

Congratulations! I'll never forget the feeling I had when two burms that I rescued years ago that, after lots of rabbit dinners, produced 22 healthy babies. I wasn't trying to breed them. Funny how they do that when they have proper husbandry.

Cheers!

It does feel good after 54 days of waiting on the eggs.
Next year his female counterpart het should be up to size, she is about 1300 grams now. So maybe next year I will get some caramels too be proud of.
thanks again for looking,

***Fingers crossed for next season!!!***

hopefully 1 or more are females so I can try to prove them out.

I really don't want to mess with 50% males at this point.

I'll post more pics in a few days when they emerge.

Thanks again for looking,

jasballs May 20, 2004 06:07 PM

congrats TOM but i'm pretty sure they would be (T )possy carmels

jasballs May 20, 2004 06:09 PM

(T ) even

TomChambers May 20, 2004 06:53 PM

The plus sign didn't come through last time I tried to post, so I typed T-pos for T positive. The - was meant as just a dash, not a negative sign.

I am aware that T- is a regular albino, and T positive denotes Caramel Albino. Is That what you were saying??
Now what a T negative and positive would look like ??? people are working on it. In 02 NERD was selling het T positive that were 25% possible T- so time will tell.

Sorry for the confusion in the notation I used.

Thanks for looking,
TomChambers

Sometimes when you type something it looks good to you, but you already know what you are trying to convey.
However, the reader can only interpret exactly what is typed.
My notation was ambiguous, the use of the dash definitely looked like I was saying negative.
I wasn't offended sorry if I came off as such.

I tried to type the plus sign a few months ago, so I knew it wouldn't display, thus I tried to use an alternative notation.

As for my season it ended this morning I believe, I bred 2 other females, but it looks like they didn't take. Next year I'll have more females big enough to breed so hopefully things will be better. Well you got to start somewhere, I learned from this season, so next year I will be better prepaired.

Thanks for repling,
TomChambers

Did you sleep last night?

I gave it a whirl this year to no prevail....(first attempt for me)......hoping for better things next year.

So what's it like?..........Congrats Tom!

TomChambers May 21, 2004 07:54 AM

I've always been the type of person who gets overly excited early, and then when the event actually happens it's like a relief and I’m exhausted.
So waiting on the eggs killed me, the anticipation was awful.

Although, yesterday I had to keep looking in every few hours to check them out, hoping for a better view of them.

Two came out of their shells last night, nothing spectacular about their appearance, but it’s all good.

Thanks again for your comments and good luck next year.

Congratulations Tom,

Very good news !!! I'll wait for more pics of the baby's

This is my dream: to get some ball python baby's in about a view years, but we will see

Take care of these little snakes. What are you gonna do with these 3 baby's: sell them, or keep them?

TomChambers May 21, 2004 08:17 AM

The snakes are 50% het caramels, but as for breeding purposes I have no need for the males. The females(hopefully) I will raise and try to prove out.
The problem is that I am a nobody, so I would more than likely have a hard time selling the males for anything more than normals.
Thanks again for the kind words.
Good luck with your dream, they do most of the work, and you do most of the worrying. I look forward to seeing your babies posted here when you fulfill your dream.

Hihi thanx,

To start with the words: My english is very bad, sorry for that. I can read and understand this language very good, but wrighting.....:s

Uhm....I have 4 ball pythons at this moment. The oldest is hopefully a male, I bougth him last week in Belgium, hehehe 266 km from here...
My first ball pythons are 2 female from last year (2003) en I have bougth a baby ball python from 2004, I think he is at least 4 months old. And in een view weeks I get an othet baby. The baby I have here, I bought him with an other little one, but when I arrived home, he died with 30 minutes . So I will get an other one for that...

So my dream have to wait. Till that time I hope to have some more of these beautiful snakes.
