Hey man,
I'll bet you almost anything its a Banded Rock Lizard.
Petrasaurus mearnsi. They're related to those Baja Blue Rock Lizards, Petrasaurus thalassinus. If it has a single black collar on the neck, is about 4" SVL (adult size) and If it waddled as it ran across boulders, thats diagnostic. Your friend lives in or near the Riverside CO. right? That should be in their range. Post a pic if you can.
