How do you count the saddles on a boa when the saddles merger towards the tail end?

Maybe I should clarify...I have several locale boas and was curious if their saddle counts match up with what is typical for them. It doesn't really matter since I know they're legit locales but figured I'd try counting just for the heck of it. However, I cannot tell with some of them since their saddles tend to run together or merge towards the tail end. How do you count these, or is it just a guess?
