This Super talk makes me wonder is there a Super salmon.....more

kirby May 20, 2004 04:39 PM

We all know that dominant(super) salmons can be produced that produce 100% salmons when bred to a normal. Furhtermore we know that while many of these are screamers there are some less impressive animals that are also dominant. The picture is of the almost patternless ghost I produced last year. The overwhelming majority of salmons from hypo x hypo breedings are remarkable animals with a similar appearance. However, in addition, I have seen a few animals that look like this almost patternless ghost with a similar pattern on the back and very little pattern on the sides. Has anyone bred one of these to a normal and a hypo and what did the litters look like? I hope to breed this male this fall and if this appearance is passed on will that be a Super form of salmon other than the dominant form. I ask this because this extreme phenotype seems to be reproducible from the salmon line and I just wonder what people's breeding experiences have been and what they think of this possibility?
