Hypo BRB Irridescence...

wetceal May 20, 2004 04:54 PM

I read the BRB morph discussion a few posts down and decided to try to capture the irridescence our Hypo BRB has. Unfortunately, he was being VERY uncooperative with me today so I wasn't able to get any photos that showed his irridescence very well.

The Hypo BRB's definitely have irridescence although honestly, I would say that they don't have it to the degree that normal BRB's do. I think the reason for this is because they are lighter in coloration. From my observations, I think animals that are darker in coloration have higher degrees of irridesence. That's why normal but more reddish (as opposed to more orange in coloration) BRB's, normal Reticulated Pythons, and Sunbeam snakes. to name a few others, have such a high degree of irridescence.

I love the way normal BRB's look with the large degree of variation in their body color from brownish to bright red to very orange. I love the Hypo BRBs too though because they are yet another color variation of these beautiful snakes. While the hypos may not be a stunning, bright red or orange, they have their own uniqueness that makes them beautiful

I will try to take some more photos of our male in the future on a day when he is better behaved in hopes of even minutely capturing his irridescence. As I have discovered, it is quite hard to do. Unfortunately, there is NOTHING like seeing these guys IN PERSON!

Thanks,
Celia

Celia,
. I am the last person who should be telling you anything about photography. Your PICs are always outstanding. But, you may get the irridescence to show if you photograph outdoors in full sunlight or thin shade. Add the Eastern Indigo to the list of dark snakes that have a lot of irridescence.

to get him to sit still in the sun. I took him outside and set up everything in direct sunlight but the guy was just ON THE MOVE! I think it had something to do with being outside and having that sunlight shine on him...he just didn't like it or maybe it was too warm or something! But I will try again another day....

Celia,
Thanks for not taking offense with the discprevious discussion. If I could actually acquire a hypo, I'm certain I would. Congratulations on your litter.

Linda

P.S. I'd still like to see those pics, I can't even take a nice pic of mine. They too are never in the mood. I'm too afraid to just turn them loose and to incapable of proper photography techniques. I'm sure the cheap camera I have doesn't help matters any. (at least that's my story)

This is the litter that Celia had the other day. Having a litter of babies shows you know what you are doing.

We were super excited about that litter. It is our first litter of Colombian Boas so I was relieved to see it...at least we did SOMETHING right LOL!

Anyways, I hope to be able to post a similar photo in the next month or two except with a different boa giving birth! We currently have a 6 foot female BRB that is gravid and she's BIG so we can't wait to see what she gives us!! She had 15 gorgeous babies last season so we hope we are just as lucky this year!

Thanks,
Celia
