Help me make a database of foods please!

dubumb May 20, 2004 05:05 PM

Seems like A LOT of people always ask, "can I feed this to my tegu?" and a lot of other people say they feed their tegus some weird things that the tegu enjoys...

If you guys can help, I wanna make a whole list of foods that are good for tegus in Excel. That way we can distribute it so there is no confusion!

If anyone would like to help (PLEASE do!) just keep adding to the list!

So far the obvious:

Crickets
mice
ground turkey
superworms

Really, any fruit that you can get them to eat, but I've been told not to give them straight citrus fruits.

Apples - raw and cooked in microwave for a few seconds. It
makes them softer and juicier.

Canned pineapple chunks-unsweetened cheap can(generic)

Mashed potatos-with cheese melted and mixed in.

Cheese fries-make your own baked, unsalted.

Cantalope-better than candy

Bananas-will eat if enticed

If you have something that you know is good for your tegu but they won't eat. Get you a long pair of tweezers or kitchen tongs and give it a little motion. My Rufus can't stand to see food moving away from him and his feeding response is strong. I also recommend a readily identifyable feeding dish. I bought some inexpensive enameled camp plates at Walmart. With three plates one is always clean and ready to go. Rufus knows that when a plate is offered that is his food...Not my hand.
