Now my albino's looking bad... need some help here guys

fadetolemons May 20, 2004 05:19 PM

I take back what I said about the albino looking healthy earlier.. I'm not sure if this is normal but I think it's not. His entire underside of his stomach, from his neck to where his hind legs connect is all red and dark purple, you can also see some of these colors coming in through his skin on top, he's gotten really lethargic suddenly and was in his hide with his eyes closed. I popped open the hide (it was a tupperware one), and he slightly opened them, then just slumped back down, he wouldn't really respond well and just kind of layed limp in my hand. Is he really sick or what?? I'm really really worried now!!!

The whole story of where I got him is posted below and everything, is it normal for the entire belly to be a dark purple color for a baby?

It may just be his stomach/liver it might be normal, but if he's acting strangely, I'd call Xtreme reptiles and describe it to them over the phone. If he was injured during shipping they need to know asap. Also, call your vet if you think its an emergency. Has he eaten anything since you got him?

As of now, after I have watched him some more, he seems to be acting normally. However, how much can you see through a hatchling/baby's stomach? And this is more than just a liver, i'm talking the entire belly portion of his body is purple/brown on the underside where you can see through. Is this normal for babies though? And could it just be crickets he's eaten?

I examined him some more and I think it's probably just organs and such inside of him, maybe some feces and other stuff as well, not sure, but i think he's alright, hopefully, he seems to be really active and everything now, hopefully he'll continue to be a healthy gecko.

I'm glad to see things are looking better for your albino. I read about the blizzard and I felt really bad for you and the lizard and the situation, and then I read this and I was at a loss for words.

My babies had a rather purple dark belly, so until their skin gets thicker, its pretty easy to see inside.

I wish you the best and hope things take a turn towards the better. Xtreme Reptiles is a good customer service place, when I inquired it took no more then afew minutes to have them respond. Good luck!

Yeah, I think my baby albino will be fine, and I just got him to eat another cricket, which is great because he needs to gain a few lbs. I'll have my new blizzard on tuesday and hopefully he'll be a healthy little leo and i'll have fun raising him.
