swollen eye...weird...

eric adrignola May 20, 2004 07:15 PM

EVERY time I've seen a swollen eye like this, it was ina montane species, and was "supposed" to be from hypervitaminosis, usually A.

Now, this female deremensis has been with me less than a month, and was imported a month or so before that--nutrition not the likely problem. All I can think is that it may be rep-cal in the eye, I had given her some the privious day. I also had something similar happen to me when I got repcal in MY eye--no kidding.

Anything ELSE it could be?

looks like my eye when my allergies act up...the whites of my eye swell...it's pretty gross...could a cham have a reaction to a plant or pollen??

can you irrigate the eye with a sterile saline solution??

My Cham Barney had tha same problem when I took him from the pet shop. The owner was just going o put him in the freezer instead of treating him. I work in a vet hospital and my doctor had me treat it as an abcess. We had to drain the excess fluid out and put him on antibiotics. The only problem with his eye now is that he does not have full range of vision anymore. He still has his globe but the skin around it looks like a deflated baloon now. Hope this helps.

If it was both eyes I would wonder if there was a mild kidney or systemic edema thing going on, but as it is one eye sounds like a reaction to an irritant, an injury, or infection. I wonder if putting a cool pack over the eye a couple of times a day might reduce the swelling and pressure?

Strange, it seems to have gotten worse, closing her eye up. Seems like it was an irritant reaction, since it was so sudden, but I don't know.

Most Jacksonii I have seen it in showed it in one eye first, then the second, then it couldn't eat and died...

I've sprayed her really well, maybe I'll try using a little sryinge/cat catheder to irrigate it, see if I can flush anything out.

maybe an antibiotic like tobramycin would do the trick
