Injured snake help

Ecko May 20, 2004 08:27 PM

Last week I found an injured Speckled Kingsnake. All of the skin on his tail except for the belly scales has been scraped off, down to the muscle in most spots. I cleaned it and have been soaking his tail daily in a Chlorhexidine solution (anti-bacterial/microbial). Should I keep it bandaged to keep it from drying out to much and curling? How would this injury affect his next shed?
He's got a good appetite and drinking lots of water. However, so far he still seems to be very weak and can't grip or squeeze at all with most of his body. He is much more alert though, after eating a fuzzie(pre-killed), so hopefully he'll be alright. Thanks in advance for any help taking care of this guy.

its kinda gross but i heard in a reptiles mag that you should put a condom on an ointmented spot so you can do that probably for your snakes tail. im no expert but i think you should change the condom on its tail once a day and soak it then cover it all over the tail with neo sporin and repeat that every day.
