Does your flavi cross ever gape at you when being handled?
It's never gaped/attempted to bite before. It squirms and hisses though, and once it tailwhipped me. They are much more mellow than a pure argus, or so I've been told..I havn't had much experience with a full-blooded argus.

My male cross is about 9 months old and 3.5 feet. He also has never opened his mouth to bite me. But man, he will puff and hiss and stand up and whip. He has even bluffed like he was going to attack me. I mean, the dude stood up and kind of lunged at me. It was really cool but I got his point. Nice display. He has severe mood swings too. But never ever has he opened his mouth. That includes when I actually do grab him (which isn't often). Super cool monitor to watch. Ruger is always moving and doing something. Just a killer animal.
