New to Dart Frogs..... what kind is this?

agrrlandherguy May 21, 2004 12:25 AM

Hi all. I am new to keeping frogs and was wondering if anyone knew what kind mine is. I know that he/she is a D. tinctorius, but I am having a problem telling what kind. They all are so pretty and have similarities, but I am leaning towards the Suriname Colbalt. Am I wrong?

Thanks!

I'd say Surinam Cobalt but the bright coloration on the eyes makes me wonder Brazilian Yellowhead??

its looks to be a surinam, the brazilians tend to have the splash of yellow with trailers down the top sides.

A good looking Suriname, Im almost sure. So far, the main difference that Ive been able to determine between Suriname and Brazilians is the back black splash continues up between the eyes on Surinames, but stops short of this for the Brazilians.

Chad,
...Or it could be a pale-colored Brazilian. My reason for this thought is how far on the head the yellow extends. It still does not cover the entire head, though. Maybe a cross between the two morphs?

Its a baby... you will not know for sure until its about 6 to 10 months old IMHO. From looking at it I would say Suriname cobalt. To even try to assume its a cross at a young age is a big mistake.

Could some one look at my post below, "Surinam or Brazilian Cobalt?" I have what I thought was a Brazilian Cobalt but now this guy says it might be a Patrica. Just use the link to go to the picture. Thanks for any help.
