Sperm plugs passed with shed??

Kikai May 21, 2004 06:13 AM

Hi all. My corn just shed, and passed what looks like sperm plugs with the shed skin. Do they do this? I've never found this with my BPs. Speedy is about 1 year old.

I was looking at your list of snakes and I did not see a male corn listed? It would take a male corn to make the sperm plug, wouldn’t it? I don’t think that corns use a sperm plug type of breeding and if they do it must only last a few day, I have produced baby corns from two different father in the same clutch (for that matter I have done the same with boas too) so I don’t think a sperm plug is used. I’m not sure what the markings on the vent section of the shed is, maybe just some fecal debris or a scale or tow that came off during the shed. Not sure, sorry.

Thanks for the response, Hoppy. The corn snake at this time is listed as "unknown" because I'm not sure of the sex. My BP produced sperm plugs when he became sexually mature, and I wasn't sure if corns do the same. Anyone else have an idea??
