Well the snake is back in his tank with mewspaper today. I will keep an eye on him. But as for signs of a respritory infecton no mucus, bubbles, or leakage from either the nose or mouth are seen. So I am not sure what it could be. He ate 2 days ago so i dout he is trying to regurgetate. Hopefully things will work out. Anyone else have an ideah of what ths could be? Anyone ever had a ball python do that? Ive only heard it once so maybe it was just a one time thing?????????

My Ball did this and my husband called me worried that the snake was going to regurge or something. When I came to check he was fine and had went into his hide, but had left a very large defecation for me to clean up. I have also heard my other snakes having bowel movements so maybe check your aspen to see if that was all it was.

With reptiles, we have a hard time knowing what woods and other things are toxic because when in captivity, we expose them to this non stop and while they would not be toxic in the wild, they are in a cage. I do not know anything about unsafe aspen bedding but I know that on chips you have a much higher risk of taking in something that is not a mouse. I also found that even out of the package, these things can have bugs in them. I use indoor/outdoor carpet since it looks nice and is cheap to replace so it is sanitary and pleasing to look at. When I am temprarily out of astroturf I will use newspaper. Is it possible the meal could have been a bit large for a baby ball python so it was having more trouble woring it down? Honestly, this sounds stupid but I would post in the anaconda forum and request a guy named DFR for help. This guy knows all sorts of technical stuff the normal keeper and breeder does not. I keep many snakes including ball pythons and one green anaconda currently and I found that with the smaller interest in anacondas over ball pythons, you get a bit more experience on average in that forum than in here. Don't get me wrong, this forum has some incredibly smart people...just in the anaconda forum...there is less beginner response.

I agree DFR seems to have alot of good advice...see that's weird I heard that the astroturf can hold bacteria well & needs to be cleaned all the time. well i guess that's another rumor put to rest..lol but i def love newspaper the best.

I am sure it can...the water runs through it providing humidity without being damp in the area the snake would be on...however, this would be good breeding ground for bacteria...I don't clean it...it is 19-32c per sq ft I replace it each time a snake soils it. I think that is often enough to where I don't need to worry about bacteria. newspaper is great but astroturf comes in so many great colors : )

repticarpet is fine but you would clean that since it is expensive. I use turf because it is replaceable so I would think it is more sanitary and easier...like expensive news paper
