Help needed please, possible gravid beardie, strange behaviour?

Netti May 21, 2004 11:00 AM

Hi all,

I had what I thought were two female beardies BUT I have just caught them both "at it", so obviously I now know Zira is male. My problem now is that I think the other, Voodi might be gravid. She is about 3 years old and this will be her first clutch.

I am a little worried about her behaviour at the momment tho, and am hoping some one will be able to shed some light on it as I'm not sure whats going on. Since yesterday, she is not really digging, but she is constantly scraping the glass to get out, and when I have her out, she is running about the place mad. It's not like her at all as she's normally very laid back and content to sit and watch the world go by.

I spoke to a friend who recently had a clutch of eggs as to what it would feel like if she had eggs in her belly and at the momment I can't feel any. She is normally a plump dragon anyway, so I suppose that will make it more difficult to tell.

I am going to separate her and Zira tommorrow into separate vivs but am wondering if I should leave Voodi in her current viv so as not to upset her, or should I move her into the new one, as it is bigger and will have more room for her nest box and for her to run around etc.

Any advice you can give me on providing suitable nesting sites, and obviously explaining this behaviour would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
It sounds like she is gravid yes. My females don't dig either - they constantly scratch the glass - and run around like crazy (for hours!) when I let them out in my apartment.

I have written a little about how I created the "egglaying box" and an incubator at my site, if you are interested. Good luck!
