Boss brought me a present

scottg Jun 17, 2003 03:14 PM

My boss found this girl in one of his 5 gallon buckets. He knows about my snake collection so he brought her to me. Sweetest little thing, tries to kiss me whenever I get near ; ) Typical TX Rat.

Can you pass along the locality for her? Texas ratsnakes come out of the egg cocked and ready to kiss. LOL. Travis and TMichael say its a bad rap. I tend to agree now having kept 3 w/c female Texas ratsnakes since they were shipped to me last year. I have a trio of locality matched w/c Texas ratsnake ready to be shipped to me as soon as the 102 degree temps here in Bakersfield, CA drop down. I really like Texas ratsnakes. They can vary alot in color and shades and most are great looking snakes after being captive. I say after being captive because alot of them look pretty rough in the wild. They must live a rough and tough life. Good luck with her if you keep her. Thanks for posting a pic.

She was found in Lavaca county near Hallettsville. I also have another from Victoria county that I believe to be a male. He's not quite as nice looking and I don't plan to try and breed her unless I can find a male from the same area. From my experience with wild Tx Rats I can safely say that their bad reputation is warranted. Many of them that I've come across have been more than happy to stand their ground with their tails rattling, musk flowing, and their mouth open ready to bite you.
