ABC ACTION NEWS (Tampa, Florida) 20 May 04 Feisty alligator snared, but it takes piece of bumper as souvenir
Palmetto: The last thing you'd expect to find under your car is an alligator, but that's exactly what happened to a Palmetto woman.
Carolyn Christian walked out of her home Wednesday morning and spotted a seven-foot-long gator sulking underneath her Chrysler Concorde.
The visitor had to go, but as the trapper snared it, it snared her car.
"What happened was, was when the trapper went to get him, he was fighting the trapper, and he grabbed a chunk out of the bumper," Carolyn recalled.
The gator's powerful jaws twisted and tore a foot-long section from the rear bumper of Carolyn's car. It must not have tasted too good though, because the snapping animal left it behind -- teeth marks and all. The whole incident was recorded on home video, which the family provided to Action News.
Carolyn, who is in talks with her insurance company about getting the damage repaired, was surprisingly upbeat about the whole encounter.
"I live in Florida. You expect that sort of thing. I've also had moccasins in my pool cage twice. I mean, I live off Moccasin Wallow Road; what do you expect?" she exclaimed. "I'm a native here. A gator is one of the things you have to live with."
