mettzilla May 21, 2004 02:02 PM

Hi, my name is Tom, I got a great deal on my first blood red corn

And I had a guy offer me some snakes, 1 is a yellow rat, male. The other I was not sure. I thought everglades at first? But I never saw one quite like this. So here are some pics

So, what do you think?

Thanks in advance,,

It's hard to see on the pics offered, but I am inclined to say its a nice striped/motley (perhaps with the vanishing tendancy), rather than a bloodred.

Nice snake, though.

worth my $20 investment? I did have to get teh yellow rat for $20 also. But I figured it was like a lottery lol.. What do you need better in teh way of pics?

Darin Chappell May 21, 2004 02:31 PM

A clear, in focus belly shot (preferably of the entire underside of the snake) would do it. Value is a personal choice on any animal, but I cannot see $20 as being too much for that snake. Especially if YOU like it!

I like it, I'd like it A LOT if a blood lol I got a blood red last year kind of on accident, no idea what it really was. There are so many morphs and I'm not really into it all. But I liked the solid red idea. as opposed to everyone lightening everything. So I took it, found out later they are a little hard to come by. But, your right main reason is I like it,, I also like anoles and green tree monitors, so as you can see value doesn't always play a part

This is the person Tim initially recommended you to about breeding your bloodred.

Every once in a while I kick myself that I didn't take you up on your offer.

I can't wait to find out from Tim what kinds of babies hatch out. I might need to buy a few from you two.

That one snake does kind of look like an Everglades, because of the orange/yellow head.

Hi Amanda, theres always next year. I don;t BS about stuff. I'm no expert on breeding. Maybe next year you can try it with one of yours. I'd rather practice on more comon stuff to start. I just happen to be in a place that i can find a great deal on occasion.

keep in touch.

I can see in the pictures the outline of saddles (picture number 2) that is covered by the intensen red color so that removes the striped snake question. the red belly bleed over is in huge ammounts and the color of the snake is much darker red then any striped I have ever seen (I produced about 120 or so striped and striped related snakes last year and probably over 500 in the last 5 years) and I have never seen that kind of color in them. Although I do beleive that some of the striped line has bloodred genes in them (based on the grey colored heads of the Juveniles) but that is another question.
I would snatch up the entire lot if he is will to give them away at $20.00 per, but first I would ask why? None of the snakes you gave links to had really good body weight? are they females that just laid or poorly fed snakes in general?
Ask why so cheap for adult snakes.
thanks

I work at a place where stuff like this happens all the time. This was a guy I knew as a kid. Only 1 of these guys, and I already bought it for 20, but I had to buy a yellow rat for 20, and even that yellow is a bit more orange than normal? Like you said, the first prolly has some blood red, gene aleles are far more complicated than most morphs,, that leads me to believe the yellow may be a cross of some sort?

Thanks for the help

tom
