What do mites look like? (pictures?)

kane65 May 21, 2004 06:42 PM

My second ball, that was given to me a couple weeks ago, has a couple 'rust' colored spots underneath.

Is there a website that has pictures of various herp/snake ailments? I can't find my copy of the BP Manual 'cause I think there were some photos in there.

Mites are black and at the largest size about the head of a pin. They will almost always hide in the labial pits, around the eyes and under the belly scutes. Rust colored spots sound more like a bacterial infection. If you think you have mites, put the snake on a white paper towel for a while. They are easy to spot then. I have used provent a mite as a prcautionary measure and on animals that had mites. It worked flawless for me.
