My iguana eat a cricket!!!

is this normal? i have had iguanas a long time and today was the first time i saw one eat a cricket. i had my iguana king out today he is about 4 feet long. he was on my bed while i was feeding my other animals when a cricket jumped out of the bag i was holding on to my bed and king ran over to it and eat it. is this nomal? i thought he might haven eatten it for the protein for breeding or something but i do not have a female iguana. eny tips y he did this also i feed him a large diet of different friuts and vegeys.

Actually its quite normal, but he doesnt need to start eating them...they have too much protein and he would eventually die of renal failure...their systems are just not made to break down the protein...I have heard of igs eating something out of territoriality...so make sure your smaller reptiles are well away from him...he may eat those too lol....make sure his diet includes lots of dark leafy greens as a base diet...with the veggies and minimal fruit...a great food chart can be found at www.iguana-zone.com good luck..Lyn
