Fungus

bellemouse2001 May 21, 2004 10:34 PM

Hey all,

So after 6 months of fighting constant shed problems my vet decided to do a biopsy to get to the bottom of the problem. I heard back today that Tijolo has a fungus! She has to send a culture in to see what type of fungus so she knows how to treat it. Has anyone heard of this problem with Tegus? I searched the site and fungus only came up under aquatic creatures such as turtles and frogs. Tijolo does spend most of his time in his water which I change every day.

Any help appreciated. Vet thought perhaps he didn't have enough ventalation. She said there are many causes. On the positive side he has trippled in size since he came in the first time last August. He is now 8.4 pounds. She said other than his skin he is a very healthy boy. We just need to cure this fungus and figure out how to make sure it doesn't come back.

Thanks,
Donna

I would treat it topically only, as different fungal infections react differently to meds. get yourdelf a gallon of hexasol or nolvasan. dilute it 30:1 with water and allow your little guy to soak for 20 min a day. YOu will also need to strip his cage and sanitize it as well. keep it bare bones no mulch, fresh newspapers daily until the problem is solved.

Yellow fungus is normally associated with Beardies but I believe it can cross over. Unless you have been in contact with an infected animal I dont think it is possible to get yellow fungus.

Try the bath for a week, it will probably clear it up. You can also use an anti fungal cream directly on the area. Lamisil is a popular product you can get at any pharmacy.
