100% Het for albino question?

JasonMc May 22, 2004 12:45 AM

Ok
Now if two 100% het for albino hoggs breed, you should get 25% albino, 25% 100% het for albino, and 50% 66% het for albino. How can you tell which is 100% and 66%. With the exception of the albino dont they both look the same, the 100 and the 66?

The only reason I'm asking is because I am working on buying some 100% hets from a guy in St.Louis. I would be bummed if I did purchase the 66% instead of 100%, and when I breed them I dont want to misrepresent the snake.
Thanks
Jason

Actually if you breed two 100% hets together percentage wise you should get 25% albino and the rest of the non albino babies have a 66% chance of being het for albino.
The only way to find out if they are het for albino is to breed them to another one that is a definate carrier of the gene.
If one of the parents was an albino then all of the offspring will be definate hets for albino.

to het breeding. Statistically you will get 25% albino, 50% het for albino, and 25% normal. Since you cannot tell the difference between the hets and the normals they are referred to as "66% Possible hets". 75% of the clutch appears normal and 2 out of 3 are hets, that's the 66%. Again, since you cannot tell which is and which is not a gene carrier (het)they are 66% possible het.
Hope this helps.
Just curious, from whom are you getting your 100% hets?

I was going to purchase them from gateway city reptiles. I was told they are a reliable source.
