building outdoor Nile cage ?

jimcho May 22, 2004 08:18 AM

hello I was wondering if anyone can give me some info on building an outdoor nile cage in south florida? I have a 4ft nile who has been housed in a 8ft by 4ft by 4ft wood an wire screen cage and have had no problems with this. I keep 4, 4ft uv light on it an 2 heat lamps, my temps are good. The outdoor cage will get morning sunlight, filtered sun around noon , then direct in after noon with some of the cage still being shaded. The outdoor cage is built the same as the indoor wood an wire mesh . I wonder if I should keep heat on outside?I have other reptile outside but with no heat an they are fine, but I know niles need high temps. an should I have used plexey glass or wire mesh? The humidity seems good, I have a pond in it, the cage is 10ft by 6ft by 6ft. I use dirt, mulch an rock as substrate there are plenty of logs an hide spots the nile seems to love the big area to roam but has seemed a little more aggressive .I wonder if the bigger cage is causeing this? maybe he has a since of freedom ? I will appreciate any help anyone with experience could give me thanks very much jim
