Small ATB not eating!!! =( =(

SouthFLBoa May 22, 2004 02:02 PM

I no there are many posts just like this one, but I have tried everything I've read. PLEASE tell me some ways I could get my baby atb to eat. I have a heat lamp for it but I don't have all those foggers/humidity things. Please help, it's gone 3 1/2 weeks without eating and I don't want it to die.
Thanks in advance

You have to keep a proper humidity especially for younger ATB, 70% or more and make sure it is well hydrated. When the humidity is good then attempt feeding with a hopper.

Use a spray bottle/mister, Spray the enclosure at least twice
a day, and if you have a screen top you need to cut off most
of the air flow,use new's paper on the floor,he need's a place
to hide, something to climb on,try useing a plastic plant in
there also, and keep him at 80 deg. no over head light,he's got
to have a Day/Night cycle, he'll hide for a while leave him
alone only disturb to mist, after a few day's he should start to
prowl at night, that's when you should try and feed,Good Luck ! !

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it.

When you mist him, mist lightly dont saturate, when you try
to feed wait one hour after your light's go out, then look and
see if he's on the hunt,if he's prowling around there's a good
chance he will eat ,try a frozen/thawed large pink or small fuz.
once it's thawed out warm it to 99 deg. and jiggle it in front
of him if he start's coming toward it ,stop the jiggle he might
take it. If he does'nt take it, the next night try live.If he
does'nt feed wright off the bat either night try leaveing the
mouse in over night check in the morning it might be gone.If it
is'nt take it out and try again the next night.

sorry i didn't respond earlier. There are a lot of posts for you to read and I am not so sure you tried everything said already. WHat are you trying...pinkies, fuzzies, adults, live, pk, ft? If the snake is small...go with fuzzy...even a tiny one can take a small fuzzy and they usually like them over pinky. have you tried braining? the last success story on here was with braining. YES you need to make sure you have proper temp and humidity and it is also hard to tell when these snakes are in shed so tell us what happens when you try and feed..does it strike? does it grab and let go? are you leaving the rodent in or feeding by hand? By hand works best because you can always count on the atb going for you and getting the mouse first...plus it is up in their level and they don't have to hunt on the ground....still no luck...try scenting...still no luck after all this...try other food like lizards or birds. post a follow up and tell me how this stuff works out and we can go from there ; )

Thanks for the posts. I appreciate it. Usually I go every Tuesday to buy food for my snakes. I'll post tomarow. And I did try braining...didn't work either.
Thanks for the posts

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, my computer hasn't been working. It still hasn't eaten though. I bought a nighttime basking bulb so it doesn't get too cold durung the night. I'm going to try feeding it again in a couple days. Thanks for trying to help.
Thanks

Hay, Reptikid, Dont give up,so you've tried everything at
night does he stay in his Hidebox,or does he come out and
prowl around,He need's to feel secure so it is very inport-
ant that he has a place to Hide, and that Temp's/Humidity
are perfect. If he stay's in his Hide at night try to feed
him when he is in his hide, with as little disturbance as
possible,Jiggle in front of the hide it might work.

That's what I tried. Yes he comes out and prowls at night. I jiggled the mouse in front of him and he wasn't interested. I have a day light bulb and a nightime (red) basking bulb. I have a hidebox for him also. I spray his cage down good so I'm assuming his humidity is okay. The people I bought the snake from said try it again with the nightime basking bulb and if he doesn't eat we will try to get you another one or get a refund. So I'm going to try again in a couple days. I really want to stay with the one I have because it has only bitten once or twice. Now, it is very tame.
Thanks for your help
If you got anymore advice let me hear it
=)

Hay, If you bought it at a Pet Shop and it was grarenteed,
as to Feeding,I would bring it back and get your money back
Dont take another one ,You got to be very careful about buy-
ing from a Pet Shop,Some are Honest, and sell Quality animal's
Most are Dishonest, and will say anything to make a sell ! !
Most dont even know the wright name of the specie's ie,(Cook's)
Tree Boa Let alone provide the wright care. You are better off
to get a C.B.B. Neonate from a Breeder on Kingsnake and have
a GOOD ! ! One delivered to your door !
