enclosure question

scrufdog May 22, 2004 02:10 PM

i have a 55 gallon tank im about to setup for 4 baby leopard geckos. i was wondering if there would be any benefit to setting up a small wading pool in it on one side. something like 3 inches deep with rocks in the bottom and a small waterfall kinda thing. i know it would help the humidity, but i wonder if they would actual swim in it or lay arond in it if a put a couple of rocks just out of the water.

I would not recommend this. Leos are more suited for a desert terrium. Make sure to include a humid hide box. Simple designs are easiest when dealing with baby leos. They need to be monitored closely when kept together.

Yeah, this actually could cause too much humidity, which could be bad. also, leos aren't too prone to swimming. While 2 of my 3 do love to be taken out and given a little bath every once and a while after shedding, I wouldn't recomend putting in a large pool in the tank, and definately not with a waterfall. Perhaps you could just have a somewhat larger water bowl, in the case that if they do wish to wade in it, they can.
