Just curious if anyone double clutches their coastals...
Paul,I have done this before but with limited results. The female has to be big, feed well after the first clutch, and not been too spent on the first.I would hesitate if the first clutch contained more than 10 eggs.Jeff
Hey Paul
Mine would double clutch without trying and I would get infertial eggs in their water bowl 6 to 8 week after first clutch.

Not deliberately but in the past, I have had them do it. My experience is that if the female has enough weight after the first clutch she'll go again regardless of anther breeding especially if she was first bred early in the spring. Fertility in these second clutched has been zero. If you were looking to DC I'd definately recommend a second breeding after the first clutch is laid. Generally speaking though the production of a single breeding effort is enough for me to take care of. I've found the best way to prevent automatic double clutching is to keep my females relatively thin to start with.
