Pacman Frogs

TheFrogGuy May 22, 2004 07:08 PM

I know there are a few different types of pacman frogs. Which one is the biggest? Which one has the horns? Anyone know a good place to find one? Thanks!

The largest species of horned frog would be the Brazillian horned frog (Ceratophrys aurita) which is not regularly available. A few people have them, but don't expect to see any. The species with the largest horns is Ceratophrys cornuta, the amazonian or surinam horned frog. They are usually poor captives as most are wild caught and do not adjust very well. They are better left for people with a lot of experience. If you want a really large frog, you can look into african bullfrogs. Males can attain 10 inches in length. The other two species that are commonly available in Ceratophrys are cranwelli and ornata. Cranwelli has larger horns and a larger head proportional to the body. Both ornata and cranwelli attain the same length roughly, with females hitting a possibly 6 or so inches and males getting around 2-4 inches. There is one other species, Ceratophrys calcarata, but they are not seen often and often fair poorly.
