Hi,
I'm trying to figure out the gender of my spiny softshell. I don't have it keyed to subspecies, nor do I have photos. However, he/she/it has a shell length of just over 30 cm ('bout a foot), and it patterned with various shades of yellow and beigey-brown in a mottled pattern, much like army gear. The bottom of the jaw/throat is a purply blue, and his/her/its cloaca is found about 1 cm (0.4 inches)past the carapace's edge. I have a photo of a spiny male on his back, and his cloaca is far past where Attila's cloaca is, but at the same time its tail is much longer than that of my female florida softshell, which doesn't come past the edge of the carapace. I've been told the mottled pattern is generally female, but the longer tail seems to be male.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Alex
