Quick Question about Honduran Milksnakes

flynryan Jun 17, 2003 05:05 PM

I currently keep 1.1 tangerine honduran milksnakes. The female is gravid and it has been 10 days since she shed and she has been on top of the lay box for the last 2 days. But she has yet to lay an egg. Is this normal and could anyone let me know how long it usually takes for them to lay all their eggs.

Also my male is a very nervous snake that has never really enjoyed being handled but rarely attempts to bite. The other day I picked him up to clean his cage and he struck at me and then took a defensive pose and just continued to strike at me even when I closed the cage. Now every time I open the cage he starts striking over and over again. He hasn't got me yet but I am wondering why he like this suddenly. Is this common for hondurans? Also how bad a bite is a honduran? I've been bit by gophers and boas and was just trying to prepare myself for getting bit by this guy.

Thanks!

I was recently bit by a adult Honduran. ( He is very docile but I made the dumb mistake of putting my hand in to get his water bowl right after handleing a ft hopper, so yea I derved it lol ) But, it was a quick grab and release, he left very small puncture's, not painful at all. That was just my experience though. Mike

In my expirience my Honduran seemed reluctant to lay her eggs untill she felt secure. If your useing a plastic see through nesting box then i suggest you cover the top (outside) with moss and try to build it up round the outside of the box so she will be well and truly hidden. They also like to burrow underneath the moss to lay, so make sure theres plenty of room for her to manuvre inside the box. Good luck.

How long can they hold the eggs is this an enevitable thing or do they absorb the eggs? Good Luck to the person the inital post came from.
