alligator feeding

jojay327 May 23, 2004 01:41 AM

WHATS UP, I WAS WONDERING SOMETHING, FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT KEEP ALLIGATORS(THE BIG ONES ANYWAY, SAY SIX FOOT) WHAT AND HOW OFTEN DO YOU FEED THEM. I KEEP LARGE PYTHONS AND AS EVERYONE KNOWS A RABBIT EVERY 7 TO 10 DAYS IS GOOD ENOUGH TO KEEP THEM HAPPY. WITH GATORS IT NEVER SEEMS TO BE STRAIGHT FOWARD. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW YOU FEED YOUR BIG CROCS. JUST CURIOUS IS ALL. THANKS JASON

I feed all my crocodilians every other day. I keep them on a boiled chicken, fish, and rodent diet. Hope this helps. Ronnie

Thanks for the help, what I was looking for is the quanity I guess. could you give me an example in weight. Lets say a 200 pound alligator, how much would you feed it. Thanks jason

I would feed a 200 lb alligator 2 to 3 percent of body weight per week during the active season. For a small gator - say 2 to 3 feet, 5% plus or minus, less than that, I feed them what they will eat.

Bill

Thanks Bill, I have learned so much from all of your replies over the years, and I love your pictures. I still can't believe that a 200 pound alligator only needs about 5 pounds of food a week, that just doesn't seem like much food. Thanks jason
