shovel-nosed treefrogs

although I always enjoy seeing reptiles, amphibians are my true passion. On a trip through the Yucatan Peninsula, we found a breeding gathering of southern shovel-nosed treefrogs, Triprion petasatus. Moments after this pic was taken this male dove precipitously into the leaf-litter and was never seen again. The call is a hoarse quacking.
