Panther Egg Question

panthercz May 23, 2004 11:37 AM

Hello, I currently have about 60 eggs that should be hatching soon and almost half of them have started to "sweat". Some though started to sweat about 3 days ago, but I still do not see any slits on either end of the eggs. Is this normal, how long after an egg starts to sweat can I expect actual hatching to take place??

Any answers or help would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks.

Normally, the eggs will begin to slit within a few days of sweating. Often, the eggs will slit right away, within a few hours of sweating, and sometimes it takes longer. Sweating can also be a bad sign, since an egg going bad far into incubation will usually sweat before going bad. If they don't slit within about a week of sweating, I would CAREFULLY (tiny tiny tools) open one of them up, assuming the baby is still alive, and see what you find. Sometimes you'll have fully formed babies inside (dead) and sometimes you'll have what looks like a hard boiled egg inside. Hopefully you'll have a fully formed baby still alive, in that case keep it in a semi-sealed container (small cup) on a wet paper towel and hope that it comes to. Once they slit, just let them take their time. It usually takes at least 24 hours to come all the way out. It seems like putting them in light (in a lighted room) helps to speed them up once they have slit the eggs. How old are these eggs? What temps did you incubate them at?

They are at 8 months and 10 days into incubation, and kept at around 72.6-73.4 degress F.

Thanks for the help, hopefully they'll be fine.
