Hot rocks=bad for all animals.
they won't be taken off the market because companys are still raking the $$$$ in. Pet stores sell them in packages for lizards/snakes instead of heat pads/lamps because they are much cheaper to give away.

is a tribute to the actual number of reptile "impulse purcahses" that occur. It shows that many people buy reptiles on a whim...without doing any research...which would likely spell out for them the dangers of heat rocks. It's sad really...snakes are probably the most abused pet animal because a lot of people see them as more of an accessory than a pet...a living thing (especially large boids). It's not cuddly like a puppy, they are not happy to see you, and most would choose to leave if given the opportunity. It is a labor of love...and personally, I would rather not sell an animal than see it go to someone that will not respect it.
This is why I stopped working with Burms. Too many people just don't do the research...I love Burms...I mean I LOVE THEM. I think for the "right" person, they can make a great pet...and even a companion...but with all the carelessness we see, I just can't justify bringing more of them into a world that will eventually be looking for the back door...when that cute 24" baby snake becomes an 11ft 100lb rabbit eater.
Sorry for the rant, I just have stuff on my mind and this set me off...
Thanks, Chris

Folks and Folkettes...
Chris O is entirely right. hot rocks get sold for the same reasont hat cheap snakes do, because their are people out theirthat will sell anything to anyone no matter what the consequnce as long as they get "THEIRS" This is called capitalism. Our government have become experts on it, selling missles to other countries and doing lots of shady back door deals. Whoops...now I am ging off on my own Rant(Sorry Chris)
Chris is right...at any shelter you see a plethra of burms, boas and iguanas as well as sulcata tortises. People buy ALL these animals because they are cheap and can be bought with no fuss or hoops to jump through. And then they grow despite crappy living conditions, and then they are DISCARDED...just like those hot rocks..into the trash, the woods or a shelter.
Our society has been one of throwaways.
Disposable children
Disposable marriages.
Disposable morality.
Disposable responsibility.
Why would we expect anything less of the way we treat animals.
ESPECIALLY the inexpensive ones where little or no thought be made about the thing dieing and the MONETARY loss incurred from not giving it first rate care.
End of rant
Thanks Chris for a good post
Sincerely,
Fred Albury
