What animals are hot rocks good for? I cant find any! Why dont they take them off the market if they are so friggin dangerous!?!?
The reason they don't take them off the market is very simple:
People still buy them. They are not harmful 100% of the time, and in some cases are better than NO heat source at all. Therefore they have been and still are used with mixed results.
The risk factor is always present, however, and there are enough other...better...ways to let your herps thermoregulate that it simply is not worth the risk. I have used them before, and still probably have one around somewhere...But I will never use one again...Just not worth it. Duffy
Yeah but if there was a popular toy for children that was dangerous to their hearing, they would take it off the market for safety reasons. Why not the same thing with heat rocks? I dont know!

I use them and they work well. Never had them malfunction. I use natural substrates for my leopard gecko and undertank heaters won't conduct that well through the stuff. The burried hotrocks work perfect.
I do agree though that if improperly used or if direct contact is given to the animal there is risks. I've seen all the burn pics. I don't generally recommend them to others.
