Sleeping Beardie???

funnyman527 May 23, 2004 02:47 PM

Ok.. so the other night i came home kinda late and my baby beardie is already asleep, but it's not on its normal perch and is just fallen asleep pressed vertical against the glass. I thought it was hilarious, but i thought it looked awfully uncomfertable, so i moved him back up to his normal little perch.

I was just wondering if this was a smart idea to do (moving a sleeping dragon) he's fine right now, but i just wanna kno for future reference.

Also, when i touched him, he was so cold (yes i kno cold blooded, so his body temp went down) but i was wondering if i should get him one of those red heat lights for night (or will it be ok?) i live in Arizona, so the nights aren't too cold. 60's at the least...

p.s. if i should get a "night light" for him, would a black light work?

Thx

Don't worry about moving him in his sleep. I did the same thing the first few times my beardie did that, I thought it would be bad for his spine. Then I asked about it here and apparently sleeping upright is just a favorite position for the young ones. Someone had a picture of a whole group of babies all sleeping up on the side of their cages. I think the best thing is just to let him sleep.

It's totally normal for him to feel colder at night when his lights go off. As long as the temps don't go below 60-65 in the room it's no big deal. If they do go with a ceramic heat emitter. From what I have heard beardies can see the red or blacklight so it can disturb their sleeping, unlike snakes which those lights are more ideal for.
