LEAPIN' LIZARDS...Tegu gymnastics

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Rufus was out for a while and went back into his tank. I closed it up and went upstairs. A couple hours later I was down there. Rufus was hanging from the flourescent light fixture. He kept struggling until he was on top of it. He has a lot more upper body strength than I thought he had. Maybe I should enter him in the olympics. Rufus sure looked like he was proud of himself...like he was saying can you do that???

Thats crazy you say that, I caught Vito doing similar yesterday. I have a wire mesh covering the heat lamp so he doesn't burn himself. He literally jumps up to get ahold of the mesh, then climbs up to the top like he's king of the mountain. He also climbs DOWN in a vertical position (then he kinda just falls the last few inches)! I guess they do have stought little legs though. Your right, they seem very proud of themselves. He hissed up a storm when I tried to get him down! You can see the mesh I am talking about in the pic below.

I love that enclosure... Does he ever climb up the stick on the right side to get to the top floor level?

Thanks for the compliment. I actually removed the stick to use in another setup, but yes he sometimes gets up the second level. I have no idea how though! I have never seen him do it, but I assume he climbs the hide box first, then jumps to the top level. Funny little lizards...

One of my walls is brick, my guy will climb up and down, also hisses when I try to get him down, I'm just scared he will fall from like 6 feet up.

My tegu, Ping Pong, has been doing the same thing! Well, he has some new vines in the cage now, since he seemed to be feeling the need to have more places to hide, and he's stopped jumping long enough to climb up on the vines to try and reach his light. I guess it preoccupied him for a moment. I wonder if tegus try to jump at the sun in the wild. That would be a funny sight!
