Maybe someone can benefit from this: Iguana Care

chibicricket May 23, 2004 08:16 PM

I have a very healthy 20 year male iguana that I've raised since it was a hatchling. He's never been caged, and he has free roam of the house and backyard along with my dog and 3 cats. He weighs close to 40lbs and is roughly 6 feet in length. He's never been aggressive to anyone. His diet includes mainly includes fruits and vegetables, but he does like to eat cooked chicken and the occasional pizza. I never fed him anything live. His vet is specialized in the care of herps, and she said that she's never seen an iguana as healthy or big as mine. If anyone needs any tips or advice, I would gladly help. Oh, and the best thing, my iguana has been litter trained since he was a year old!

Wow sounds like a great beast...I would love to see pictures of you with him...to see the size of him...and tho he was lucky to have made it to 20 eating chicken and pizza...it is NOT suggested to feed any animal protein because it could cause renal failure...again pictures please...40 lbs is kinda unbelievable...Lyn

Well, I hate to brag, but he's been on the local news here in Buffalo, NY twice. He's been mistaken as an alligator twice, and my mailman is afraid of him. After he was on the news for being a very unusual pet, I had people standing outside my house in the summer time hoping to get a glimpse of him hanging out either outside or in the window.

Yes, please post some photos. The largest male iguana that I've ever seen weighed about 22 pounds and he was a monster beast. I've had a couple here that were 18-20 pounders. I cannot even imagine a 40 pound Green Iguana. The largest Cyclura iguanas don't attain that size!!

I'm going to have my sister scan some pictures of him for me sometime this week, I'll post them by Wednesday or Thursday.
