Depends upon your criteria for what makes a snake "good". Many red tail boas (especially females) can get quite large (I've had one near 9 feet and about 35 lbs). Otherwise, their care is very similar. Balls are more reclusive and not nearly the willing feeders (on average) that red tails are. Also, balls are (on average) a bit more reluctant to bite... however, I've never had problems with any boas that I've owned (except during feeding time).

Actually, I think the Sci Fi channel is doing a documentary on that very question Boa Vs. Python. They answer questions about feeding, enclosures, handling, and whether or not either of them can be stopped by armies and machine guns, should they grow 100 feet or longer...
