So I went west from Castroville to Langtry and headed up the dirt road to Pandale. Forgot to reset the odometer but it must have been 35 miles or so of hard scrabble road. Wind was out of control. I'm guessing 30 mph at least. And only about 75 degrees F. May in West Texas? Go figure. Saw lots of kangaroo rats, cottentails, jackrabbits and owls. Betcha them owls had an alterna or 2 in their intestines. But no snakes. Well, saw a whipsnake...and round-tailed horned lizard the next day, as well as your general west Texas assortment of earless lizards, whiptails and racerunners. No hognose, kings or subocularis. Maybe next time?
