What kind of tegu do you have? For reds, I recomend 4'x8' minimum. if it is mearly for sleeping in and he can come out and roam about, you can get by with 2'x8' or squeeze into a 2'x6' but i would not recomend it for any length of time. they need to be able to thermoregulate so they need a good gradient of temps. they also need to move around.

I prefer not using glass but if thats what you want, try here
www.glasscages.com

It is not hard to built a pvc or wood enclosure and it is easier to maintain humidity and temps in than glass.

If you live in warm climate and have the space, outdoor housing is great.

Building your own wooden cage will cost considerably less than a glass tank... If you DID get a good deal on a 150.,.. it would be $150... Now, a couple sheets a plywood and some screws is a lot cheaper than that... and better!

What I recommend is to sit down with a ruler and blank piece of paper. Draw and redraw and think about how to heat, light, and space requirements. Ask for Home Depot gift certificates for birthday, Christmas, and other occasions. After drawing and redrawing until you think it will work go to Home Depot and get the lumber you need and build it. This is what works for me. My only drawback to this is I overbuild. I could drive my 4x4 over it.

I looked at several custom built tanks and all of them had to be modified to some degree for my tegu and the space was always too small. So I built my own. Now I'm going through the process with snake tanks. Anyway, you get the idea. Happy building.

Thanks guys for the help as usual....I am going to build one as it seems to be the better solution...unfortuantley it will be indoors....right now hes still little like 11 inches....I do see the drawbacks to using glass....but how can i see him when hes in there? I will have to build like little view windows? Or would that not be a good idea? Also what kind of lumber? I know they dont like certain inds of mulch...so does the same apply to lumber for their cages? Or does it not really mattter casue they arent burrowing into it or anything......
