Selling cal kings in cal.

JasonMc May 24, 2004 02:04 AM

I would like to sell and breed cal kings. I live in los angeles california and belive that I need to obtain a permit from DFG. Any of you breeders in california who breed cal kings, how hard is it to obtain the permit and what alls involved? Do fish and game need to do checkups at my home where the snakes are?

Do I also need to obtain a permit for albino cal kings or only the normal colored ones?

Last but not least. If I buy a lot and sell them individually without breeding them do I still need a permit?

Thanks for any advice.

The permit is easy to obtain. I don't have the link on hand but you should be able to go online to get the application for it. The DFG does not usually do checkups but they can do an inspection of any permit holder's facility.

No permit is required for the albinos.

There is a common misconception that anyone can resale a Cal king, rosy boa, or gopher snake simply because they bought it. You can only sell snakes that were captive bred by yourself or purchased from another permit holder and have proper receipts from the purchase. Additionally, anyone who sells one of these species in Calif needs to have a permit. Therefore you cannot resale animals you purchased out of state even if they were captive bred unless the out of state breeder has a Calif permit.

Hope that answered your questions.
