My Sudan's sick...Pleaz help!?

Meaghen Jun 17, 2003 06:29 PM

I have had my Sudan Plated lizard for approx. 1 1/2 years now. I got him from a friend who didn't want him anymore. I don't think that he was all that well cared for and thought that I could be a better owner. Last summer I had Paco out of his cage and when I went to get him off of the living room floor his tail was detached. I read up on this and asked various Sudan Plated owner's who claimed that this was a type of defense method (he was never roughly handled by any means! & there were no other animals around). After this happened I began bathing his tail with an antiseptic specified for these instances, also cleansing with water before application. He seemed fine after this but then this past spring he seemed as though he was getting thinner. then he seemed to have a sore on his stomach...which has healed. I have moved him to my mothers house now where he receives excellent care & plenty of food but now I have noticed that he has developed some kind of a sack underneath his tail near his "bum" which I had not noticed b4. I thought that he seemed to be happier here, moving around much more, but...??? Sorry so long but if anyone has any answers please let me know!!!! He has grown on me so much in the year & a half that I have had him...I would terribly miss my Paco.

I haven't read up on the Sudan's but maybe it's a gland - Breeding season? Worth looking into.
