Can the Zoo med antiseptic hand gel be used to clean a tank? Is it harmful for a monitor?

Maybe someone can help you with that but my advice would be if you're not sure go with something you can be sure of. Virosan can be purchased at pro- exotics and you can read more about it there as well or if your interested in purchasing it by the gallon as i do, let me and i'll give you the website.

laying around the house and if you read it its for killing bacteria on your hands after handling reptiles and not for cleaning tanks. Im almost certain that it could/would be harmful to your animals so please consider Virosan- you can spray this stuff directly on to your moniters wounds etc and its completely safe. This is what the veternerians use on the animals during surgery to stop infectious bacterias and its not at all expensive.

Virosan is basically Nolvasan, there are multiple types, for cleaning cages either the scented or surgical scrub should work fine. You can get them at a feed & seed store, it may seem expensive, but it should be heavily diluted before using.

It will end up alot cheaper than the hand gel, and it's anti-microbial properties have been proven. Although I don't think it should be necessary for routine cage cleaning.

Really, Who would really know if they were effective?
Most of those hand anti-bacterial things are alcohol based gels. They might work but why worry about it? Just use a bleach and water solution. That will disinfect most anything and it is easily available and cheap.
