What does it mean when...

your young ball python rushes out of his hide and climbs to meet you when you are taking off the screen top of his tank? Does he think he is about to get fed? I feed in a separate container. Is he glad to see me? Or is this a threat warning in some way? This happened for the first time this evening and I was quite surprised. EVERY TIME I have ever gotten him out I have to lift his hide and take him from there. I am just a little bit intimidated by this guy even tho he has never shown any aggression at any time. I only handle him once a week not counting the feed day. Is it possible that he was glad to see me?

Wow!! Never heard of that happening to anyone before. Honestly, i don't think that he would be coming out to greet you but then again you never really know! My guess would be he probably thought he was going to get fed or that you were some type of prey. My best explanation but i guess without being the snake you'll never really know! He just might have been happy to see you!

Maybe he's just an alert little fella. I've had balls that never move and I have had balls that act like retics they are so inquisitive. My retics all perk up when I walk in the room. They like to see whats going on. Its totally different on feeding day though. They have that begging look in their eyes.

...appears he's gaining confidence and is hungry. Baby balls are quite timid at first but once they gain the confidence that you're not a predator many will show great enthusiasm to feed.

just the other day i walked into my room with a mouse for feeding and put it down on my bed while i was getting ready to feed. immediatly my snake had come out of the hide and began striking the glass. didnt think he could sense the mouse that well but he suprised me alright. the mouse barely hit the ground before Delta had him wrapped up.

Honestly, the only snakes I have that DON'T do this are my WC adults. Two BPs, a Viper Boa and a Black Rat. And the black rat will come out if I lift her hide......sorta out of curiousity and sorta just looking to get a good tag in. Even the WC rough green (shy my big toe) and my wc baby BP all come out. And they are all well fed etc. They will do it the day after a big meal. I figure...they live in a box and they want to see what else is going on.
