Are spotted pythons ophiophagus

croc 2-3 May 24, 2004 09:07 AM

Just wondering if there are any redcords of them cannabalizing each other. I just got a female to breed to my friends male so just asking? For those who may not be familiar with the term ophiophagus it means eats other snakes (snake eater).

Although not known several cases have come up. I don't know about spotted pythons but I know it's happened with ball pythons, red tail boas, lots of colubrid species. Basicly It's possable with all species....be smart don't take the chance!

No, in the wild they are bat-eaters, and unlike many colubrids they are gregarious (enjoy each others' company). In fact spotted pythons actually do best in pairs and trios!
Good luck with the mating, and post pics of the offspring!

How can you tell they like each other. Are you psychic? I'd like to know because if you can tell me what my snakes are thinking then maybe it'll answer some questions. No really It's known most reptiles do not like each others company. I wonder if in the wild you would find more then one spotted python together. It's not common to find any species other then rattler dens in which many of the same species Congregate together.
