What should a 2002 male corn be eating...

Tigergenesis May 24, 2004 12:07 PM

on average? I just bought a 2002 male snow corn and the previous owner was feeding him 1 crawler each week. He's 109 grams - not sure of length. He seems small to me for that age, but I'm new to corns and am not sure. What do you guys think?

A 2 year old corn should be on adult mice.

Well obviously you don't want to feed it an adult until it gets to the girth to handle one. When all of mine were around 100 grams, I had them eating 2 fuzzies or 1 hopper. I personally don't feed adult mice until my snakes have gotten to be about 250-300 grams. All 3 of my 2002 snakes are still on weanings.

Hello,

Yes, he could be eating more than a crawler at this point. But something you should consider in compairing sizes. This guy was a late '02. That being said, you could easily have 2 different "'02s" that were almost 1 year different in age.

If a snake is hatched in January and another in December, they are both '02 but there is 11 months difference between them. That's why I don't like to just look at the year of hatch. We have many '03's now that are his size. But that's because there is only a month difference between them. It would be better to think of this snow as an '03 if your going on year. I say that because comments about year, rarely touch on the details invovled in a snakes development and prey size. I would rather look at weight in this case. And, as mentioned, gurth of the snakes body. Feeding this snake an "adult" just because he is an "'02" is going to be difficult.

Just thought I would add,
Troy

Thanks Troy!

I knew looking at him that an adult would be too big for his girth. He's doing great and says 'hi, thanks for the new home'. LOL.
